We had a productive practice tonight! Every now and then, I catch myself listening to one instrument more than another, and tonight I was struck by the sounds coming from Mike's (Curtis) corner of the room. Mike plays dobro, and I sometimes describe him as a "polite" picker. For one thing, he's fantastic! He's one of those guys that actually conveys emotion in his playing. He seldom says a word, but he doesn't have to! He's got "IT". That thing that makes music magical. The thing many musicians spend their entire life attempting to learn. It's the thing that makes people hold their breath to listen to, and inspires others to work toward achieving, "IT", is that which can't be taught. But what I find the most striking about Mike Curtis, is that he seems to be completely oblivious in regards to his immense talent! I am baffled by his ability to remain so humble! It is truly one of the craziest things! This guy drives over an hour, every Monday evening to come and play with us! I can never say God hasn't smiled down on me at least once! I can't wait to get this show on the road so that you all can hear what I'm hearing! I'm truly blessed to stand in the same circle with this guy. Mike, you're doing an awesome job! Thank you! I so appreciate the sacrifices you make to be a part of this band, and your willingness to allow a little of "IT" to rub off on the rest of us.
